Speaker 18th August

Josh Tamener was our guest speaker for our meeting on the 18thAugust. Josh is Assistant Principal at Parkville in the Youth Justice System (previously known as Turana). Josh spoke about the day to day life of a teacher – having to lock and unlock doors up to 80 times a day and of trying to make a connection with young people in a very short period of time before they went to Malmsbury. An important part of Josh’s role was the debriefing of teachers who had been verbally or physically assaulted by the young people moving through the system. Most teachers only last for two or three years. He also spoke of the overwhelming numbers of young people coming from disadvantaged suburbs as compared to the more well-off areas.
