The last shipment to the Jigjiga hospital facilitated the establishment of an Intensive Care Unit. The outcomes have been very rewarding and increased the capacity for more advanced surgery and supporting critically ill patients.
Previously critically ill patients and those needing support after major surgery would have required transfer. But now due the mechanical ventilator available at Jijiga, through the Horn of Africa project, Recently the local staff were able to provide life-saving care to a 4-year-old girl in critical condition with severe meningitis and respiratory failure. But now due the mechanical ventilator available at Jijigaand today, she has fully recovered and returned home safely.

During the period October 11, 2025 – January 8, 2026 (GC), ICU support directly contributed to a 91.9% increase in total surgical operations (from 37 to 71 cases), with emergency cases rising by 103.4% and electives by 50%. The availability of ICU services made it possible to manage complex cases previously, thereby expanding surgical capacity and access to lifesaving care in our community.

We sincerely appreciate your support in enabling Jigjiga Primary Hospital to establish its Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This is more than a medical success — it’s a story of hope made possible through compassion and partnership.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Rotary Club for their generous donation and to Jama Farah, whose tireless efforts and dedication continue to bring life-saving support to our community.
Your commitment is saving lives and inspiring hope every day.
