Vale Frank Brown

We mourn the loss of our longtime member Frank Brown, who died on 19th November. A member of the Rotary Club of Footscray for 49 years having joined in April 1975 and President 1986/87 and received Paul Harris recognition with Sapphire 1992-93.
The Rotary theme during his year as President was “Rotary Brings Hope”. During his presidency the Club’s 50th Anniversary was celebrated with a black tie gala dinner at the Arts Centre. Other highlights of that year included Sir Edward (Weary ) Dunlop as the most significant lunchtime speaker and a Children’s Christmas party being instituted.
He remained an active club member who was involved in many of the club’s big projects as long as it was possible.
At two District Conferences hosted by RC of Footscray, (1990 and 2008) Frank acted a treasurer. Lawrence Atley praised Frank for his role at these conferences: “ … absolutely no fuss, absolutely no errors, ,absolutely perfect budgeting. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a man of quality in our club.”
Apart from Rotary, Frank served the Footscray community as a member of the Board of the Footscray and District Hospital, being Treasurer 1976 -85 and holding fiscal responsibility for the hospital. Although in full-time private accounting practice this voluntary work averaged 14 hours a week.
Frank was a thorough gentleman and will be missed.
The club was well represented at his funeral on Friday 29th November.
Our sincere condolences to Ann and the family.
