Craft Group Report

On Monday 7 July, Carol Castano had her last craft group at Maribyrnong Community Centre. Maria Silber presented Carol with a certificate of thanks and the offer of an honorary membership of the club. It is estimated the group raised $20000 over the life of the group.
Carol has written a report on the groups work over the years follows:

On 7th July we had our final Rotary Craft Group Session at the Maribyrnong Community Centre. I established this group in 2003, and have been co-ordinating their sessions since we first met at Footscray Primary school. A few years later, when I retired, we moved to the Maribyrnong Community Centre and the Group has happily met, once a month, 9am -3pm for our  Craft sessions  to share ideas, teach each other, and happily socialise.
Over the years we have had children, and even grandchildren, participate, especially during school holidays. However in  the past two years, our numbers have dwindled to only half a dozen regulars, and my health has not been very good. So I decided to bring this groups’ sessions  to an end, and focus my efforts on continuing the Caroline Springs Group, where the numbers are more stable.
Throughout these years we have had great support from Maribyrnong Council and the Maribyrnong Community Centre staff,  who have allowed us to use their facility free of charge, for all of this time. As a result the funds raised have consistently allowed our Club to donate these to Rotary International’s End Polio Now Program.
It has been a great pleasure to involve the local community members in our various crafts, and also keep them informed about the work of The Rotary Club of Footscray, as well as Rotary International.
At our final session in July, the Staff provided us with a farewell Morning Tea, and Maria Silber came to the Centre, and presented their Staff with a Certificate of Appreciation, on behalf of our Rotary Club. I was also very honoured to be offered an Honorary Membership of our Club, which I very gratefully accepted.
