With the conclusion of most (but not all) of the Rotary Dental Project, the remaining money in a Rotary Australia World Community Service account was offered to the NHOS. Their request was for portable dental equipment so that Primary Care teams could visit provincial areas and provide much needed services.<br />The equipment purchased comprised, three each of a portable dental chair, operating unit, and free-standing operating light plus one bench top Autoclave steriliser. The total cost for this was $12500.

In view of overseas volunteer professionals being blocked by excessive bureaucratic procedures to work legally in the provinces, now, NHOS staff themselves will have the obligation and capacity to undertake periodic outreach missions of about one week in rural settings. Happily our years of preaching prevention over “last gasp” restorations means that most of the outreach work will be both pain-free and of lasting benefit.
