A service of celebration celebrating the life of Lauchie and Marie Wright was held recently. Lauch died in ? during COVID preventing a formal funeral. On the recent passing of his wife Marie the family decided to hold a joint celebration of their parents lives.
Lauch was a significant member of the club over 60 years, and it is appropriate to reflect on his contribution to the club with reflections from Frank Brown (dec) at the time of his death and John Granger who spoke at last week’s service.
Extracts from Frank’s reflection:
• an unwavering member of our Rotary Club.
• together with Marie, was always notable for their presence and support of all projects and activities promoted by the Club.
• served on most of the Club’s committees and in many instances was chairman.
• twice acknowledged with Paul Harris awards which he accepted with his customary modesty…..never one to seek accolades.
• honoured as a Legend of the club.

Highlights of John’s eulogy
• Lauchie joined the Club since 1953, and was the first member of our Club to serve for 50 year and, later passed the 60 year mark.
• When I joined Rotary, 1974 my relationship with Lauchie was initially, very much ‘junior to senior’, but he was very generous and each time we sat together at lunch meetings, I always left him feeling more informed.
• Rotary’s highest honour is a Paul Harris fellowship. Lauchie was a recipient in 1989.
• A man of many parts and various interests,
• He kept fit and had that ‘stripped down and ready to go’ look.
• His Australia-wide motorbike trips on his BMW "beast" were the stuff of legend.
• He was a “doer” and rather than endlessly engage in points of debate he always ‘just got on with it’.
