Lenka's Story

After being in Australia for four months our exchange student Lenka educated us about her homeland and reflected on her experiences here so far.
She started by clarifying the semantics of Czech Republic, the official name of the state, and Czechia, the short name, analogous to Commonwealth of Australia and Australia.
The population of Czechia is 10M, in an area 100 times smaller than Australia. The population is almost exclusively European and because of its communist history and being land locked has not attracted immigrants. Almost 50% of the population identify as atheist and Christianity is the predominant religion. Christmas is celebrated with St Nicholas appearing early December, bearing gifts.
Her home is opposite a castle, not something that occurs here!
Her music interest is playing the base recorder player and she loves her two cats at home.

Since being in Australia has enjoyed varied experiences: bush walking, a visit to Phillip Island to see the penguins, attending a birthday party in the Botanical Gardens, being at the Melbourne Cup and a school formal. As there is little seafood at home, she really enjoyed fish and chips at StKilda, despite the rain.
Since being here Lenka has taken up wild life photography.
