President's Report November

Another busy month of meetings and socialising plus great news about our next President.

Here is a summary with detailed reports later in the Bulletin.

Our first meeting for the month, November 10th, was the Cluster Meeting with the DG Amanda Wendt held at the Yarraville Club on November 10th.

On the 17th November we had a catch-up, “What’s Happening” in four different programs.

Elizabeth Drozd updated us about the Western Region Aged Care Fund.

Suzanne Zammit spoke about the Footscray Art Prize. Applications are now open and the main prize has been increased to $20 000. Our club will again sponsor the prizes for the primary and secondary students.

Jama Farah informed us of a project currently in development. He and I met with a representative from the Austin Hospital to discuss their donation of  six recently superseded dialysis machines which will to be sent to Africa.

Jamie Robertson, who began the Vietnam Dental Project in 1992, visited Vietnam earlier this year to organise the visit for 2023.

President Elect:

Congratulations to Bob Newman who is President Elect for 2023/24. A big thank you to Bob for taking on the role of president for the second time.

Picnic at Fryerstown

A very big thank you to Graeme and Joy for opening up their home in Fryerstown for our first social gathering in quite a while.

Gaskin Gardens Project

The joint Rotary Club of Footscray and Co-Health project at Gaskin Gardens has been successful in their application to Maribyrnong Council for a grant They have been awarded $8000 and this will enable the project to progress to the next stage. Nada will continue working on this project as a Friend of Rotary.

Foundation Scholarship Grant

Our club was again successful in its application for the Foundation Scholarship for a student for Year11/12. The student has already been selected and the scholarship worth a $1000 for both years 11 and 12 will be presented on Friday 2nd December at Footscray High School.

We will have two December meetings. Our guest speaker on December 1st will be Clare Jones  "Meditation - The Harvard Way". Our Christmas meeting on the 15th will feature a special menu at The Plough.
