President's Report January

Best wishes to all our members, family and friends for a very happy and fulfilling year in 2023.

Although we don’t have any meetings in January, and it might feel as though Rotary is on holiday there has been a lot happening at the start of 2023.

Jama Farah has acquired more medical equipment to support the Horn of Africa project. In addition to the dialysis machines from Austin late last year there has been a large donation of equipment from Western Health. See separate article later in Bulletin.

On the 19th December the first shipment of stationery supplies that we sent to Timor Leste arrived in Dili and were collected but as yet not reached the schools which are very remote. Roads are currently impassable because of floods during the wet season. As soon as the roads are open the supplies will be delivered to the schools.

The stationery supplies that have arrived were provided by Donations In Kind. Current DIK supplies are very low and they have asked for donations from clubs. If you have any spare stationery or can purchase some during the Back to School Sales please bring them to our first meeting on the 2nd February and we will take our collection of stationery to DIK to help replenish their supplies. Items needed in classrooms such as such as exercise books, rulers, black lead and coloured pencils are ideal.

Congratulations from the Rotary Club of Footscray.

Gus Del Rio a former member and a current friend and supporter of the Rotary Club of Footscray has won the 2022 Geelong Business Excellence Awards’ (GBEAs) Regional Business Award. Read more about Gus and the award in this article from the Geelong Independent newspaper.

Kevin and Ron have one of our social events for later in the year planned for Gus’ vineyard. Thanks to Fred for forwarding this article to me.

Can You Help?

We have been contacted by Linda Basnik production manager for Rotary International in Evanston Illinois asking for recommendations for printers for the upcoming RI Convention. If you can help please contact Linda - Linda.Basnik@rotary.or

“If you have any printer recommendations or contacts in the printing industry, I would greatly appreciate your forwarding them to me. I will need only a contact name, email address and website (if available). I will contact each printer to review their capabilities and determine if they are a good fit for this project. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.”
