President's Report

On July 15 at Footscray Community Arts Centre on behalf of the Club I was able to present prizes to the winners of the Primary School and Secondary School sections of the Footscray Art Prize awards. We were joined at this event by the other sponsors Vic Uni and Maribyrnong City Council. Our contribution was $ 500 for each of the prizes.

On 17 th July I attended the Annual District Foundation Grants seminar which now allows us to apply to District for Global and Local Grants in 2023 -24.

A meeting of several Presidents of the expanded Gateway Cluster was held via Zoom on July 20  coordinated by AG Tony Laycock

Several areas of possible cooperation for clubs in the cluster were discussed one being a plan by East Keilor to stage a Fun Walk along the banks of the Maribyrnong as a fund raiser for Polio Plus .

Possible date for this event would be a Sunday in October .I expressed our willingness to help with this planned event.

The cluster Presidents have agreed to meet on a regular basis and it was proposed that the Community Chairs from each club may also like to meet to discuss cooperation.

Our next big project is  THE FOOTSCRAY ART PRIZE DINNER DANCE  on Sat Aug 5th at Croatia House which is being organised by Phillip Caruso and Suzanne Zammit.

The first Board Meeting for the 2023 -24 year is planned for 6pm on Thursday 17th August at The Plough prior to our Club meeting on that evening.

One proposal for discussion at that meeting is one received from Dean Kotsianis [who spoke at a recent meeting] for a financial contribution  ($ 1000) to a Footscray Greek Art Project.

This would allow us to create signage that directs onlookers to The Bike Shed and would also promote Rotary in our local community. The title of the street art project is Footscrays Hidden Hellenism .

Regular club meetings for August are on Thursday 3rd and 17th  at Plough Hotel as usual at 6.30 pm.
