President's Report September

May I firstly give thanks to Maria and Jamie for steering the ship during my absence in September.

Catherine and I have spent a few weeks on annual and conference leave in Europe since late August.

I did attend briefly a Cardiology conference in Amsterdam but more importantly we were able to visit our daughter Clare in Den Haag .

Clare with her partner Sarah and two young sons have recently relocated to The Hague where Sarah an AFP Officer has just been posted to The International Criminal Court [ICC] for two years.

We were joined by Roger and Margaret Batrouney and Sarah was able to arrange for Roger to appear before the ICC for a photo opportunity.

The four of us  then did a 14 day river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and were blessed with good weather and perfect river levels .

The vacation finished in the UK ,London and Bath which is the only  UNESCO listed city in England  famous for its Roman Baths and superb Georgian Architecture.

2 Establishing Rotary Community Groups

As part of the Regionalisation Pilot Rotary Zone 8 is now seeking preferences from Clubs about establishing Groups in the new structure of Rotary. Your Club President and Secretary[ Maria] will be pleased to hear your ideas in this regard.

In summary Groups will be of 12 -25 Clubs and may cross Districts. Clusters may stay much the same if they wish but are likely to be expanded. Groups may be based on commonalities such as geography, type of club eg online ,shared interests or shared language. Club preferences will need to be submitted by Sunday 29 October this year.

I will be attending a workshop on this matter on Frid Sept 29 and will have more to report later. More details in this document.

3  Footscray Hidden Hellenism project for which we are a sponsor was launched on Sept 9 and Fred Maddern was  present to represent the club. A Certificate of Appreciation (attached) has been received from the project.

Cheers

Bob
